The population, of just over 1 million, lives in a variety of settlements, including market towns, garden cities, new towns, large urban areas and rural villages. Its vibrant local communities are Hertfordshire’s biggest asset. Within the county, there are over 10,000 community and voluntary groups which make an important contribution to the quality of life culturally, socially and economically to all who live in the County.

Parish and Town Councils form the first tier of local government and have the powers to provide many services and facilities. In addition they represent grass roots views and influence the decisions made by others on the way our communities are shaped and developed.

Established for over 60 years HAPTC exists to protect and promote the interests of our member Parish & Town Councils, and Parish Meetings within Hertfordshire.
