Hertfordshire lies just to the north of London and borders Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Essex and is one of the six counties of the East of England Region.
The population, of just over 1 million, lives in a variety of settlements, including market towns, garden cities, new towns, large urban areas and rural villages. Its vibrant local communities are Hertfordshire’s biggest asset. Within the county, there are over 10,000 community and voluntary groups which make an important contribution to the quality of life culturally, socially and economically to all who live in the County.
